Tottenham target Vlaar joins Feyenoord

Feyenoord have won the race to sign AZ Alkmaar’s highly-rated defender Ron Vlaar.

The 20-year-old Holland international has put pen-to-paper on a three-and-a-half year deal with the Rotterdam club after passing a medical this afternoon.

Vlaar had been considering a move to Barclays Premiership Tottenham, who had a bid for the youngster accepted by AZ at the end of last week.

However the player has now decided to stay in his homeland where he will join up with his new team-mates from January 1.

Vlaar told www.feyenoord.nl: “It was my preference to play for a big Dutch club. So when Feyenoord called I didn’t really have to think for too long.”
