Paul Dickov dumped 2004 Carling Cup winners Middlesbrough out of this season’s competition with a 90th-minute winner as Blackburn deservedly marched into the semi-finals.

The tie looked to be heading for extra-time when the Scot turned Shefki Kuqi’s deflected shot home at the far post to send the travelling supporters into raptures.

Boro might have rescued the game in injury time, but substitute Massimo Maccarone fired against the base of the post from a tight angle.
