Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho made just one change for their final Champions League group G game against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese coach stuck with the bulk of the side that beat Middlesbrough in the Premiership on Saturday, although injuries robbed him of the services of Claude Makelele, Joe Cole, Glen Johnson and Hernan Crespo.

Left-back Asier del Horno was relegated to the substitute’s bench with Paulo Ferreira coming in at right-back.

French defender William Gallas moved over to left-back to cover del Horno’s absence as Chelsea sought a victory that would cement their place in the next round as group winners.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, whose side needed a draw to finish top, rested Xabi Alonso and made three changes overall from the team which defeated Wigan on Saturday.

John Arne Riise, Djimi Traore and Mohamed Sissoko were recalled with Harry Kewell, Fernando Morientes and Stephen Warnock settling places on the bench.

Chelsea: Cech, Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho, Terry, Gallas, Essien, Robben, Lampard, Duff, Gudjohnsen, Drogba.

Subs: Cudicini, Del Horno, Carlton Cole, Geremi, Diarra, Wright-Phillips, Huth.

Liverpool: Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Traore, Gerrard, Hamann, Sissoko, Riise, Crouch, Luis Garcia.

Subs: Carson, Kewell, Cisse, Josemi, Morientes, Sinama Pongolle, Warnock.
