Scully appointed as new Hoops boss

Shamrock Rovers have appointed former Kilkenny City boss Pat Scully as their new manager after Roddy Collins was dismissed earlier this week.

Scully impressed as manager of the Cats last season guiding the perennial strugglers to fourth in the First Division and will now be charged with guiding Shamrock Rovers back to the Premier Division at the first attempt.

“It was vitally important that we made an appointment as soon as possible,'' says Rovers' chairman Jonathan Roche. ``And we feel Pat is the ideal man for the job: he's young, ambitious and had a great season with Kilkenny.

“He's on holiday this week, but we wanted a message to go out to everyone - especially the fans and the players - that Shamrock Rovers mean business.”
