Warnock stays with Blades

Sheffield United today announced manager Neil Warnock is staying at the club.

Warnock, who celebrates his 57th birthday today, had been targeted by Portsmouth to succeed Frenchman Alain Perrin, who was sacked last week following the Premiership club’s poor start to the season.

However, United’s plc chairman Kevin McCabe this morning confirmed on the club’s official website, www.sufc.co.uk, that Warnock will continue his six-year reign at Bramall Lane.

McCabe said: “We are delighted that Neil Warnock’s future remains with Sheffield United – this is a club with enormous potential determined to satisfy the Premiership aspirations of fans, players, coaching staff and its team manager.

“It is true to say I wish the Portsmouth saga had not started but in the end the outcome in this case demonstrates the importance of the relationship between a chairman and a team manager.

“Together with my fellow directors and senior management team, I have been able to show to Neil – and he has recognised – that he has a key role in helping shape our quest for the top flight of English football.”
