West Ham took a 1-0 lead into half-time of their Premiership clash with Manchester United following a strike after just 52 seconds from Marlon Harewood.

The striker bagged his first goal since mid-September when he converted Matthew Etherington’s left-wing cross to give the hosts a flying start.

Former United keeper Roy Carroll was, however, kept busy by his old team-mates, with good saves from Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes as the visitors rallied.
