Luxemburgo position not discussed

Real Madrid’s under-pressure coach Wanderley Luxemburgo looks set to remain at the club for the time being after his position was not discussed at a board meeting.

Madrid fans and officials have high standards and Luxemburgo is feeling the heat of expectation after his side lost 3-0 at home to Barcelona last weekend and drew 1-1 against Lyon in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Brazilian was widely vilified for his decision to replace David Beckham, who was struggling with a back injury, 11 minutes from time against Lyon.

That prompted speculation that he could soon be out of a job but the club’s official website, www.realmadrid.com, says of the high-level meeting: “At no moment did they discuss the sacking of the coach.”

That situation, however, could change should Madrid fail to defeat Real Sociedad on Sunday.
