David McGill hit a late winner to give first-division Dublin City the edge going into Friday´s second leg of the promotion/relegation play-off.

Aidan Lynch stunned Rovers to fire Vikings in front a minute before the break. Picking up a loose ball in midfield, defender Lynch surged forward to beat Barry Murphy with a thumping 30-yard shot.

Rovers stormed back into the match from the resumption and Cathal O´Connor, who scored twice agianst UCD on Friday, hit the bar on 51 minutes.

Seven minutes later, Rovers were level. Ben Whelehan pulled down Trevor Molloy inside the area and the Rovers´ skipper dusted himself down to equalise with a coolly taken penalty.

But midfielder McGill won it for Vikings five minutes from time when his low 25-yard drive went through the arms of replacement Rovers keeper John Balke to leave Rovers´ Premier Division status hanging by a thread.
