Taylor brace sends Forest through in FA Cup
Nottingham Forest overcame a poor first-half display to advance to the second round of the FA Cup against Conference South side Weymouth.
Paul Gerrard kept the visitors on level terms at the break, the former Everton goalkeeper at full stretch to tip Chukki Eribenne’s 39th-minute shot onto the post.
And Gary Megson’s Coca-Cola League One side took full advantage after 66 minutes when Nicky Southall chased down a hopeful through ball to cross for the unmarked Gareth Taylor to slot home from eight yards.
Taylor, just back from a three-match ban following his red card against Yeovil, then sealed victory in the 73rd minute with a simple tap-in at the back post from a James Perch cross.
Forest will travel to Chester City in the next round.
In the night’s other first-round replay, Adam Webster’s 76th-minute goal was enough for Conference North side Worcester to beat Chippenham Town and set up a home tie with Huddersfield.
