King injury doubt for England

Tottenham defender Ledley King has emerged as England’s main injury concern ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Argentina in Geneva.

King, who had been earmarked for a possible midfield holding role, missed the squad’s first training session ahead of the game this afternoon due to a knee injury.

The England medical staff will continue to monitor his fitness to establish whether he is able to take part in the remaining sessions ahead of Saturday’s game, while the seriousness of his injury has not yet been revealed publicly.

The other England player who missed training at Manchester United’s Carrington base was Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

However, Lampard was merely understood to be slightly ‘off-colour’ and was expected to return to training with the rest of the squad tomorrow.
