King avoids FA action

Tottenham skipper Ledley King will not face any action from the Football Association after his clash with Stelios Giannakopoulos at the Reebok Stadium.

King’s boot appeared to make contact with Stelios’ face in the second half of Spurs’ 1-0 defeat, although referee Howard Webb took no action at the time.

FA officials looked at the incident again and did not deem the clash to be deliberate.

“There will be no disciplinary action as there was nothing to suggest the incident was intentional,” an FA spokesman said.

King, 25, has a good disciplinary record for Spurs and has only been booked once this season and just twice in the last campaign.

The England international was impressive again at the Reebok, although the 1-0 defeat ended a run of five games without defeat for Martin Jol’s side.

Kevin Nolan’s spectacular strike proved to be the difference between the two sides, with the Trotters moving to third in the Barclays Premiership.

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe had a goal disallowed for offside, with television replays suggesting the decision was harsh.

“We’ve had the opportunity to see it again and he’s definitely onside,” Spurs coach Chris Hughton told official website www.spurs.co.uk. “For us, it was a vital period of the game.”
