Matthew Taylor’s 40-yard wonder goal sealed the points for Portsmouth after a dramatic Sunderland collapse at the Stadium of Light.

The home side led at the break through Dean Whitehead’s fourth-minute penalty but a series of second-half efforts gifted the south coast club the points.

Zvonimir Vukic’s equaliser was followed by Taylor’s poke-in after a mix-up in defence then his amazing lob over Kelvin Davis just before the hour.

Dario Silva’s diving header completed Pompey’s victory.

Sunderland’s dramatic collapse continued in the 74th minute when Taylor crossed from the right and the unmarked Silva launched a powerful header past a helpless Davis.

Pompey continued to look most likely to add to their tally while the unfortunate Davis had to put up with being roundly booed each time he touched the ball for the remainder of the game.
