Jason Byrne scored his 18th goal of the season to keep Shelbourne's tenuous hopes of retaining their title alive as they moved to within six points of joint leaders Cork and Derry.

Shels blew Harps away from the start with Byrne, who hit a post inside the first minute, shooting them in front - for what proved the only goal of a one-sided match - with a terrific 25-yard drive on four minutes.

Byrne, Gary O’Neill and Jim Crawford should have added to that a Harps, now almost doomed five points adrift at the bottom with three games to play, somehow kept the score down.
