Camara focused despite weekend tantrum

Wigan striker Henri Camara has apologised to manager Paul Jewell after his display of petulance at the weekend.

Camara showed his dismay at being substituted in the 76th minute of Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle at the JJB Stadium by heading straight down the tunnel.

Jewell was forced to chase after Camara and issue a stern reprimand, later describing the Senegal international’s actions as “disrespectful” to his team-mates.

Camara has since told Jewell and the rest of the Wigan squad that his behaviour was “born out of frustration”.

“It is not normally in my character to show petulance, and this is the first time I reacted like that to being substituted,” said Camara on wiganlatics.co.uk.

“I live to score goals and when I don’t, I get frustrated.

“But the manager was right to take me off. I was tired after a bad week personally. I was upset about Senegal not qualifying for the World Cup and had done a lot of travelling.”

Camara’s apology was delivered yesterday, and he added: “I have the utmost respect for the manager. He is a great coach and I want to fit into what’s happening at Wigan.

“I’ve put this behind me and am just concentrating on scoring goals for Wigan.”

Jewell was happy to accept Camara’s apology, confirming: “Henri came to apologise to me and as far as I’m concerned the matter is closed.”
