The 21-year-old has twice been forced out of Wales squads by injury, denying him a likely debut on both occasions.

He would probably have played on Saturday against Northern Ireland if fit, but he has now recovered from a back problem and is expected to replace veteran Paul Jones.

West Ham’s James Collins is making a rapid recovery from his dislocated shoulder and is also likely to retain his place, with club-mate Danny Gabbidon returning to partner him in defence after suspension.

Wales are without Mark Delaney and David Partridge, both banned, and Richard Duffy should return at right-back.

John Hartson will win his 50th cap.
