Footballer Stack cleared of rape charges

Irish footballer Graham Stack was this afternoon cleared of raping and sexually assaulting a law student.

The Reading goalkeeper was accused of attacking the woman at his London flat after meeting her in a night club last year.

The Jury at Croyden District Court found Stack not guilty on one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The 24 year-old told the court earlier this week that he had consensual sex with his accuser on September 1 last year after she instigated it and he said he was devastated by the allegations.

Stack’s friend Alan Smilie, who was accused of taking part in the attack, was also cleared on two counts of sexual assault.
