McCarthy waits on injured quintet
Mick McCarthy will make late checks on five players before he finalises his team for Sunday’s derby clash with Middlesbrough.
Goalkeeper Kelvin Davis (finger), central defender Alan Stubbs and full-back Justin Hoyte (both calf), midfielders Julio Arca (hamstring) and Tommy Miller (back) are all expected to shake off injuries sustained in last weekend’s heartbreaking 1-1 draw with West Brom.
However, midfielder Carl Robinson damaged a hamstring tendon in the 1-0 Carling Cup win over Cheltenham and is unlikely to be available, while teenage full-back Dan Smith is suspended following his dismissal during the same game.
Provisional squad: Davis, Alnwick, Nosworthy, Stubbs, Breen, Caldwell, D. Collins, Hoyte, Bassila, Miller, Whitehead, Arca, Elliott, Le Tallec, Welsh, Lawrence, Piper, Gray, Stead.
