Kenny hoping for City treble
Derry City manager Stephen Kenny is hoping the Candystripes can complete a remarkable treble after winning the eircom League Cup on Tuesday night.
Derry face Shamrock Rovers in the FAI Cup on Saturday evening while they remain in contention for the League title meaning that, rather than rest on their laurels, Kenny wants the Candystripes to push for a remarkable treble.
“The players have been unbelievable, that’s 21 games unbeaten and it’s culminated in a trophy. Hopefully that’s not the end of this hopefully there’s more to come,” said Kenny.
“We’re on a crest of a wave and we don’t want stop here. We don’t want to be content with that and pat ourselves on the back. I think it’s important we keep going.
“We will be focussed on Shamrock Rovers on Saturday. We’ve eight games left in the League. Cork have a game in hand so I don’t know how may we’ll have to win but we may have to win all eight. We’ll it a go that’s for sure.
“We know we can make an impact. The League Cup is the third of the three competitions but it’s still a trophy and I’m delighted we’ve won it.”
