Manchester United captain Roy Keane has been ruled out of action for at least two weeks due to a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

The 33-year-old Irish international aggravated the knock after coming on a substitute in the latter stages of Saturday's Manchester derby.

He had already missed United's pre-season tour of the Far East because of the injury and was also absent from the squad that left Manchester for Spain yesterday to take on Villareal in the Champions League.

United were hoping he would be fit for Sunday's Premiership clash with Liverpool, but further tests have shown that he needs at least two weeks' rest.
