Everton striker James Vaughan will be out of action for six to eight weeks with a knee injury.

The 17-year-old suffered the injury in a training session while on duty with the England Under-19 squad.

“After further investigations and a scan he will require a cartilage operation and is likely to be missing for between six to eight weeks,” Everton manager David Moyes told the club’s official website www.evertonfc.com.

The Blues have had to cope without £6m (€8.8m) striker James Beattie for the last month with a toe problem.
