Everton boss David Moyes made a last-ditch attempt to bring Michael Owen to Goodison Park before the striker agreed to join Newcastle.

Owen, 25, met with Liverpool officials on Monday before agreeing a four-year deal with Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd.
