David O’Leary will launch an appeal to the Football Association disciplinary board over Nolberto Solano’s red card at Portsmouth knowing that three of the previous six sendings off in the Barclays Premiership this season have been ruled erroneous.

But the Peruvian midfielder faces a three-match ban for his elbow retaliation on Pompey's Richard Hughes at Fratton Park unless the appeal is upheld and Villa boss O’Leary said: “I will be without another very influential player in that case and that’s something I have become all too used to.”
