Defeat for Celtic in Old Firm derby

FT Rangers 3 Celtic 1

Gordon Strachan’s first Old Firm derby ended in defeat after his Celtic side were beaten 3-1 at Ibrox.

Dado Prso and Thomas Buffel made it 2-0 to Rangers before Shaun Maloney and Nacho Novo swapped late penalties.

The game was not without controversy either as Celtic midielder Alan Thompson had been sent off in the first half with the game at 0-0 for a foul seemingly worth no more than a yellow card, before Neil Lennon followed for an incident on the final whistle.

Lovenkrands fired across goal and wide after Prso had put him through. He was back again within seconds but won only a corner off Balde.

Lennon was booked for dissent before Bob Malcolm replaced Pierre-Fanfan with 18 minutes remaining.

Ferguson was hurt when Balde challenged in the Celtic box and limped off for treatment.

Celtic were handed a lifeline when Murray tripped Maloney and the substitute beat Ronald Waterreus from the spot with four minutes remaining.

But Rangers won a penalty themselves three minutes later when Petrov knocked Prso over and Novo converted to wrap up the points.
