Pardew has high hopes for Carroll

West Ham boss Alan Pardew is confident goalkeeper Roy Carroll will be fit to start tomorrow’s Barclays Premiership match at Newcastle despite aggravating his back.

Pardew expects Carroll, who missed Northern Ireland’s midweek draw with Malta because he was moving house, to return to training today and start the game at St James’ Park.

Centre-back James Collins (calf) is still out but left-back Clive Clarke has shaken off an ankle injury and will travel with the squad to Newcastle.

Provisional squad: Carroll, Repka, Gabbidon, Ferdinand, Konchesky, Benayoun, Reo-Coker, Dailly, Etherington, Harewood, Sheringham, Hislop, Mullins, Noble, Ward, Clarke, Newton, Zamora.
