Douglas holds his hands up

Scotland goalkeeper Robert Douglas has accepted responsibility for Austria’s late equaliser which took the gloss off a fine World Cup warm-up workout.

The Scots were on course for a rare away win when Douglas, a second half substitute for first choice Craig Gordon, spilled a drive by Austria skipper Andreas Ivanschitz.

The loose ball was gleefully snapped up by substitute Joachim Standfest, whose finish forced Walter Smith’s side to settle for a 2-2 draw in Graz.

Douglas, who moved to Leicester in the summer, said: “It was disappointing for me. I think nine times out of 10 I would have caught that ball. It was one of those ones.

“Certainly the ball was moving in the air but there are no excuses. You are always annoyed when you lose a goal, but that’s football.”
