Summer signings line out for Pompey
Portsmouth included six summer signings and Tottenham selected three newcomers but were without three key men at Fratton Park.
Midfielder Gary O’Neil was a surprise absentee for the home side who had Croatian Ivica Mornar on the wing and new Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma on the bench.
Tottenham had to cope without the injured Edgar Davids, Robbie Keane and Ledley King.
In King’s absence, the captaincy went to England goalkeeper Paul Robinson who started behind a new-look back four which featured Anthony Gardner.
