Birmingham have completed the £3m (€4.3m) signing of Walter Pandiani from Deportivo La Coruna.

Birmingham have completed the £3m (€4.3m) signing of Walter Pandiani from Deportivo La Coruna.

The 29-year-old Uruguayan striker, nicknamed ‘The Rifle’, has signed a three-year deal after impressing while on loan at St Andrews last season.

He scored four goals in 14 appearances for Blues last term and will provide competition in attack for Emile Heskey, Clinton Morrison and fellow summer arrival Mikael Forssell, who also cost £3m (€4.3m) when signing from Chelsea.

Pandiani started his career at Uruguayan club Penarol where he scored 29 goals in 71 games. He moved on to Deportivo in 2000 and scored 39 goals in 91 appearances in the Spanish league, which included a loan spell with Mallorca in 2002-03.
