Bad break for Kiely

Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely will miss the start of the Barclays Premiership season after fracturing a finger.

Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely will miss the start of the Barclays Premiership season after fracturing a finger.

The 34-year-old suffered the injury in training yesterday and is likely to be out of action for six weeks.

His absence means Danish youngster Stephan Anderson, 23, is likely to begin the campaign in the Addicks goal.

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley now has a shortage of goalkeepers and admits if he suffers any further injuries he may have to request special dispensation from the Premier League to bring in another loan player.

Athletic already have their full quota of domestic loan players having brought in Alexei Smertin and Jonathan Spector on year-long deals.

They also have another loan player in Gonzalo Sorondo from Inter Milan.
