Cork City maintained top spot in the eircom League tonight as they eased to victory over Shamrock Rovers while Shelbourne dropped points at Bray. Derry remain second after victory against UCD.

Eircom League leaders Cork City beat bottom club Shamrock Rovers 3-0 at Turner's Cross tonight.

Joe Gamble put City ahead after just five minutes against Roddy Collins' Hoops. George O'Callaghan then missed a penalty, hitting the crossbar after 29 minutes.

Rovers started the second half well and hit the crossbar through Pat McCourt but John O’Flynn settled Cork nerves with a volley on 62 minutes.

Substitute Neale Fenn added to City’s lead on 78 minutes when he pounced on the indecision in the Rovers box from Liam Kearney’s cross.

Meanwhile Shelbourne left a 2-0 lead slip against Bray at the Carlisle Grounds and were held 2-2.

Fresh from their Champions League win against Glentoran, Owen Heary gave Shelbourne a 7th minute lead and Glen Crowe doubled the lead on 11 minutes.

Eamon Zayed pulled one back for Bray on 66 minutes and Colm Tresson stunned Shelbourne when he equalised on 80 minutes.

Shels are now 11 points behind Cork City.

Second place Derry City kept the pressure on leaders Cork as they beat UCD 3-0 at the Brandywell.

Mark Farren scored the first against the Students on 29 minutes and Ciaran Martyn grabbed the Candystripes second just one minute after the break.

Martyn scored his second on 87 minutes to ensure victory.

Bohemians left it late for an amazing 3-2 win over Drogheda.

Bohs led through ex-Irish international Dominic Foley on 39 minutes but Drogheda’s Declan O’Brien scored on 64 and 66 minutes to stun the home side.

But Fergal Harkin pounced on 85 minutes to restore parity and Foley scored his second in the last minute to give Bohs victory.

St Pats added to Waterford’s woes with a win in Inchicore tonight. The Saints scored when Keith Dunne arrived on cue to finish off a fine move on 40 minutes.

Waterford had the better of the early part of the second half but any chance they had ended when David Breen was sent off after 85 minutes.

In the First Division Dundalk got a last minute winner against Athlone Town, who stay bottom of the division.
