Canaries complete double swoop

Norwich today beefed up their squad for a promotion push by signing midfielder Andy Hughes from Reading and PSV Eindhoven defender Jurgen Colin.

The 27-year-old Hughes, who had been entering the final year of his contract at the Madejski Stadium, joins Nigel Worthington’s side on a three-year deal. Details of a fee were undisclosed.

Hughes made 157 league starts for the Royals during his four-year spell at the club but is now looking forward to a new challenge in the Championship at Carrow Road.

“I am very pleased to be joining Norwich City,” he told Norwich’s official website, www.canaries.co.uk.

“They are a big club, who I expect to be challenging for promotion this season.

“I hope to be able to play my part in an already great squad with good management. I’m looking forward to meeting the lads and getting the season underway.”

Worthington also earlier added Colin to his squad in a £263,000 (€377,600) deal.

The 24-year-old – whose move to Everton fell through at the last minute last season – passed a medical today and, like Hughes, penned a three-year deal.

He travelled back from Holland with the Canaries as they returned from their pre-season tour.

Worthington said: “I am delighted to get such a young player with experience and 12 years of education at PSV – a club with a great tradition of producing talented young players.

“For the fee that we are paying he is an absolute bargain for Norwich City Football Club and one with great potential.”

Colin and Hughes becomes Worthington’s fourth and fifth summer signings following the free-transfer arrivals of Jason Jarrett, Mathieu Louis-Jean and Peter Thorne.
