Candystripes take sweet win against 10-man Rovers
Shamrock Rovers 0 Derry City 2
Shamrock Rovers failed to give their fans - who had secured the purchase of the club earlier in the day - something to cheer on the pitch as they went down to Derry at Dalymount Park.
Rovers had Willo McDonagh sent off for a clash with referee Alan Kelly on their way to defeat to high-flying Derry, who move up to second place in the table.
Midfielder McDonagh was shown a straight red card for aggressive conduct towards Kelly on 25 minutes.
Ciaran Martyn then put Derry in front with a cracking goal on 48 minutes, bursting by Keith Doyle to shoot past Barry Murphy.
Killian Brennan added Derry’s second eight minutes from time when his shot deflected off Gavin McDonnell into the net.
