Butler set for new Leeds deal

Leeds skipper Paul Butler is poised to sign a new contract which will keep him at Elland Road for another two years.

Championship rivals Cardiff were reported to have made a £250,000 (€369,000) bid for the 32-year-old former Wolves defender.

“There was interest from Cardiff but it was just turned away,” Leeds spokesman Don Waters said.

“Leeds are not interested in selling Paul Butler and he’s just in the process of signing a new contract here anyway. His new deal will keep him here until 2007 and he has agreed to sign it.”

Leeds have also been linked with a swap deal involving midfielder Eirik Bakke with Birmingham striker Robbie Blake.

“We don’t comment on media speculation, but I can say Eirik was training with the Leeds squad yesterday and is again today,” Waters added.
