Just as they did to knock Shelbourne out of the FAI Cup last month, Derry scored twice in the first half to earn another win at Tolka Park to end the champions' short-lived revival.

Killian Brennan shot home the rebound after Dean Delaney could only parry a shot from Eamon Doherty for the lead goal on 17 minutes.

Gary Beckett then dispossessed Bobby Ryan to set up Mark Farren to double Derry’s lead seven minutes later.

Shels threw everything at Derry in the second half and got a goal back through Jason Byrne on the hour.

But it was to prove mere consolation and Shels troubled season continues.
