Argentina legend Diego Maradona was officially presented as the new vice-president of Boca Juniors on Friday night.

Boca chairman Mauricio Macri said: "We are proud to have Maradona here. I hope this will be the beginning of a very long relationship."

Maradona played 71 matches for Boca in two different stints with the club. He won the Metropolitano tournament in 1981 and returned from 1995 to 1997.

His his last game as professional was on October 25, 1997 against arch rivals River Plate - a game which Boca won 2-1.

Maradona said: "I thank Macri and the Board for the opportunity to work and give Boca all of my experience gained in football.

"I come to work for Boca because I want this club to get bigger and bigger every day."
