Lokvenc snubs Pompey

Czech Republic striker Vratislav Lokvenc has turned down Portsmouth to sign for Austrian side Salzburg.

Czech Republic striker Vratislav Lokvenc has turned down Portsmouth to sign for Austrian side Salzburg.

Lokvenc, who has made 68 appearances for his country, also rejected approaches from Hertha Berlin to sign a three-year deal with Salzburg after leaving Bochum.

He told Czech paper Sport: “The negotiations with Hertha were not straightforward. Hertha manager Dieter Hoeness was reluctant to conclude the contract. I had a similar feeling from the negotiations with Portsmouth.

“Although we agreed on the wording of the contract, when I saw the hard copy of it, an important part had been taken off or there was a new one which was not acceptable for me. Salzburg were the most straightforward and that is why I decided to sign for them.

“In Salzburg the conditions were better than the ones from Hertha and Portsmouth. It is the best transfer of my life.”
