Everton claim they are closing in on a deal to bring Chelsea striker Mikael Forssell to Goodison Park.

Blues chief executive Keith Wyness revealed today that officials from both clubs have held talks about the player.

“We haven’t reached agreement yet, but we are not far apart now,” he told the club’s website www.evertonfc.com.

Everton face competition for the 24-year-old Finn from Birmingham, where Forssell had a successful spell on loan before suffering an injury.

Should a deal be struck between the clubs Forssell would be expected to arrive on Merseyside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical as soon as possible after completing international duty with Finland.
