Mutu completes suspension

The Football Association today confirmed former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu has completed his seven-month suspension.

Mutu, sacked by Chelsea last season when he tested positive for cocaine, was given the green light to resume his playing career by a disciplinary commission.

The Romanian international was given a schedule of education and rehabilitation and the FA were satisfied the player had undertaken the programme satisfactorily.

A spokesman for the FA said: “We can confirm that Adrian Mutu has completed an education and rehabilitation programme and is now free to play.”

The shamed striker will now continue his career with Juventus. Mutu has been training with the club since Chelsea showed him the door last year.

Chelsea are still pursuing a legal claim for compensation against Mutu. They were given the go-ahead to take their case to FIFA last month and expect to recoup at least £8m (€11.6m) of the £15.8m (€22.9m) they paid for him from Parma.

Juve boss Fabio Capello said the 26-year-old will play some part against Cagliari on Sunday.

“He is working hard and he deserves to play,” said Capello. “He will certainly do that on Sunday against Cagliari.”
