Patrick Vieira claimed he was “strong in his mind” as he took the penalty which won the FA Cup for Arsenal.

The Gunners captain beat Roy Carroll with the fifth kick, beating Manchester United 5-4 on penalties after 120 minutes of scoreless football.

Asked about the crucial kick Vieira said: “I was strong in my mind today.”

He added on Sky Sports: “I think in the game, it was difficult. We didn’t create many chances so credit to them but we showed great character.”
