Juve tighten grip on Serie A title

AC Milan virtually conceded defeat to Juventus in the battle for the Scudetto with the Champions League finalists held 2-2 by Lecce.

That result, and Juve’s 2-0 home win over Parma, saw the Turin club extend their lead to five points with just two matches to play in the Serie A season.

Until last week the two sides had been deadlocked but Juve’s win over the defending Serie A champions at the San Siro gave them the whip hand.

Milan’s slip-up at Lecce today means it is now all over bar the shouting.

At Parma, first-half goals from Alessandro Del Piero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic saw Juve comfortably see off Parma and keep their part of the bargain.

At Lecce, twice AC Milan took the lead through first Filippo Inzaghi and then Andriy Shevchenko.

However, Lecce hit back first through Haouliais Konan and then Mirko Vucinic whose goal came after Konan was shown the red card.

The showdown for a place in next season’s Champions League between Udinese and Sampdoria finished 1-1.

Chievo earned a precious 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Siena to lift them out of the drop zone.

Brescia boosted their survival bid with a 2-1 win at Bologna, Internazionale had a 1-0 win over Livorno at the San Siro, the Rome derby between Roma and Lazio finished goalless and that was also the scoreline in the game between Fiorentina and Atalanta.

Reggina drew 1-1 with Palermo and Messina beat Cagliari 2-1.
