Preston take play-off advantage against Rams

Goals from David Nugent and Richard Cresswell mean Preston will travel to Derby for their play-off semi-final second leg on Thursday with a two-goal advantage.

Billy Davies’ North End totally dominated the opening period and, after Cresswell had missed a couple of chances, Nugent put the hosts ahead in the closing stages of the first half.

Following an abject performance in the opening period, the Rams were much better after the break but will have a two-goal deficit to make up after Mo Konjic’s clearance appeared to ricochet in off Cresswell late on.
