Eriksson: Rest will help Rooney

Sven-Goran Eriksson declared that Wayne Rooney could emerge as the star of next year’s World Cup finals after being rested from this summer’s mini-tour to the United States.

Eriksson has acceded to a request from Alex Ferguson for the teenage striker to be given a much-needed break after the end of a gruelling season.
