Brazilian legend Mario Zagallo will undergo surgery on his stomach next Tuesday to rectify a problem that has left him in hospital all week.

The general co-ordinator of the Brazil national team is in the Samaritano Hospital, in the south of Rio do Janeiro, where doctors will carry out further tests before the surgery.

Zagallo’s son, Paulo, said that his father should be back at work in around 10 days, if there are no unexpected troubles during the surgery.

Zagallo won four World Cups during an illustrious career, two as a player in 1958 and 1962, one as coach in 1970 and another as assistant boss in 1994.
