Sporting Lisbon, who won through to the UEFA Cup final at their own Jose Alvalade Stadium in dramatic circumstances against AZ Alkmaar.
Sporting won on away goals thanks to a headed goal by Miguel Garcia in the final seconds of extra-time to break Dutch hearts.
Denmark striker Kenneth Perez’s close-range header gave Alkmaar an away-goal lead in the sixth minute but Sporting forged back ahead at 3-2, 1-1 on the night, with a goal from Brazilian marksman Liedson.
Incredibly the home side hit back again though s Stein Huysegems followed up on a mix-up in the Sporting defence to take the tie to extra-time and then Kew Jaliens volleyed in following a right-wing corner.
They were just seconds away from booking their place in the final when Miguel Garcia got ahead of AZ goalkeeper Henk Timmer and nodded in an inswinging corner from the right at the near post to take his side through instead.
