Chaplow out after training ground collision

Richard Chaplow has been ruled out of West Brom’s crucial game against Manchester United on Saturday after a training ground accident with team-mate Kanu.

Chaplow, 20, damaged knee ligaments after the freak accident last week when the players collided while training on the same team.

The former Burnley midfielder, who arrived at The Hawthorns for £1.5million in January, is also doubtful for his side’s clash against Portsmouth on the final day of the season.

Manager Bryan Robson said: “Chaplow has done his knee ligament but he has a 50/50 chance for Portsmouth.

“Running into these last two games the last thing we wanted was having a couple of people out, especially with Andy Johnson already missing from centre midfield.”

He added: “Chaplow picked up the injury in training in a freak accident with Kanu on Friday.

“The two of them were on the same team and went for the ball at the same time.

“They both thought the other was going to leave it and Richard just twisted his knee a little bit as they came together 50/50.”
