Wright-Phillips targets England tour
Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips wants to add to his England caps during the tour of North America later this month – although he admits other players could benefit from rest.
The 23-year-old made his England debut at the start of the season and has been impressive for his club in the Barclays Premiership, with suggestions he could be a regular for Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Although City boss Stuart Pearce has revealed he would prefer his youngster not to play in the end-of-season tour, Wright-Phillips believes it is an opportunity for the squad to bond ahead of next year’s World Cup in Germany.
Wright-Phillips told Sky Sports News: “It’s a bit of both, some players need rest, as teams like Chelsea play over 50 games.
“It’s a good get-together also, and there’s team bonding which will help us. If I’m selected I’ll be there.”
