Blues rubbish Murphy Black Cat reports
Waterford United have denied reports that the club has accepted an offer from Sunderland for star striker Daryl Murphy.
The Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has interested a host of clubs in England with Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy visiting Ireland to watch the striker, while Ipswich Town had Murphy on trial after Easter.
It led to reports this morning that the striker was on the verge of a move to Sunderland following the club’s promotion but Waterford have moved quickly insisting that Murphy remains a Blues’ player for now.
A Waterford statement read: “Waterford United would like to confirm that no deal has been reached on the transfer of striker Daryl Murphy to any club in the UK or elsewhere.
“While there has been interest expressed from the club as well as from a number of other clubs, no firm offer has been made for the player nor has there been any contract drawn up for such a transfer in July.”
