Longford survive late scare in Setanta Cup

Longford Town 2 Linfield 1

Goals from Stephen Paisley and Andy Myler earned Longford their first win of the season and got the beleaguered club’s Setanta Cup challenge back on track.

Paisley stooped low to head home Dessie Baker's cross to give Town the perfect start after six minutes.

Linfield enjoyed a good deal of possession before their creaking defence was pierced again in first half stoppage time.

Shane Barrett fed Baker on the right and the wide man’s first time cross was shot home by Myler with a super finish.

Linfield pressed for much of the second half and were finally rewarded four minutes from time.

Paul McAreavey got a touch to an Aidan O'Kane free-kick to beat Stephen O'Brien.

It was too little too late however, as Longford celebrated a long-overdue win.
