Hughes seeks striker

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has made signing a striker his priority after complaining that Rovers have been let down by their current goalscorers.

The former Wales boss has had Scotland international Paul Dickov, Jay Bothroyd - on loan from Perugia – and Jon Stead available to him while Matt Jansen and Paul Gallagher have struggled with injuries.

But none of them has satisfied Hughes, with Blackburn bottom of the Barclays Premiership’s scoring chart with just 25 goals from 30 games.

And he told the club’s website, www.rovers.co.uk: “We have not scored as many goals as we would have liked this season; a few more here and there would have helped our situation significantly and it is obviously an area we are keen to improve.

“We do not discuss names of targets for a whole variety of reasons, but supporters can rest assured that we are already looking.”
