Kameni biding time for United move

Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni admits playing for Manchester United is a “dream” after being regularly linked with the Red Devils this season.

The 21-year-old Cameroon international has been in outstanding form for Espanyol and admits he is flattered by the interest shown by some of Europe’s leading clubs.

“There are lots of good sides and I couldn’t say which one I would like to play for or which league although it is possible I would go to England,” he said.

“I have a lot of friends there like Geremi and (Eric) Djemba-Djemba and I have talked to them a lot about life in England.

“I watched Chelsea against Barcelona, it was a great atmosphere, people in England live for their football.”

Asked about United, whose goalkeeping coach Tony Coton has watched him several times this year and who reportedly made a bid for his services during the January transfer window, he said: “Manchester (United) is a great club. You always talk about them as you do about (AC) Milan, Juventus.

“It is a dream, but at the moment I do not think that it is right to force things. I have to take what happens slowly.”

Although a Cameroon international, Kameni was unknown when he arrived at the Olympic Stadium last summer from Le Havre where he was struggling to get a game in the side.

Kameni started this season in the first team after Belgium-born Erwin Lemmens was injured and he has played a key role in Espanyol’s strong showing in the league.
