Charlton on top as UEFA race hots up

Jerome Thomas and Danny Murphy fired Charlton to victory with a pair of stunning strikes to win tonight’s Barclays Premiership clash with fellow European hopefuls Tottenham at The Valley.

The 21-year-old former Arsenal trainee drilled the ball in from 25 yards after cutting inside from the left after just four minutes, with Murphy – who could have joined Spurs in the summer – smashing home a free-kick late on.

Fredi Kanoute had the best of Spurs’ chances – both during the first-half - missing his kick from close range and then seeing Dean Kiely make a fine reaction block.
